The iButton® is a 16-millimeter computer chip enclosed in a stainless steel container. Each chip has its own unique ID number which is unaffected by magnetic fields, metal detectors, water and most common chemicals.
The iButton is rugged enough to withstand harsh outdoor environments. You can drop it, step on it, scratch it or wear it swimming. The iButton is wear-tested for 10-year durability and can be reassigned quickly and securely. It is by far the best solution for both manufacturing and office environments.
When an iButton is touched to a CrossOver lock or TimePilot timeclock, the device matches the ID number of the iButton to a list of lock users or timeclock employees. Using iButtons keeps your organization more secure, because they stop people from sharing keycodes at the locks and stop employees from clocking in each other at the timeclock.
In TimePilot's iButton lock systems and its time and attendance systems, the iButton is part of a keyfob that attaches to an employee's keychain. The keyfob and button combination is about the size of a house key. The standard keyfob color is black; 10 other colors are available. (Note: We do not suggest purchasing yellow iButtons for use with a CrossOver lock because the CrossOver Program iButton also comes in a yellow keyfob. The two products have very different functions and it will be difficult to tell them apart.)
